The Opportunity:
This position supports the financial operation accuracy and data integrity for a large municipal department. Also responsible for providing day-to-day administrative support at a senior level to the Municipal Policing Services Management Team. This position assists/provides planning coordination, preparation and entering of budget documents (Annual $31 Million Operating & $ .25 Million Capital) for the department. Accuracy and customer service is vital. as errors may affect the City’s reputation. This position supports administering the False Alarm Bylaw program, and is a contact with the public via the telephone, in person and/or email regarding the False Alarm Bylaw program disputes and inquiries. This position is responsible for functions & systems related to the department revenues with a focus on financial management, communication and customer service. Required to complete all accounts payables and procurement, accounts receivables and invoicing and assigned records management for the Department. This role provides supports as needed for the accounting and asset stewardship of the department. This position is required to understand complex integrated software systems, processes and governance and provide excellent customer support. This position requires an individual who is adept at navigating complex relationships, confidential and sensitive matters, and is responsive to a fast paced and dynamic work environment.
As our preferred candidate, you will have:
- 2 year Diploma in Business Administration or equivalent experience with an associated diploma
- Four years experience performing accounting duties for a large organization in an on-line integrated computer environment, preferably within a Municipal Policing environment.
- Knowledge of complex accounting principles and procedures as applied in a computer environment. Experience with JD Edwards accounting system would be an asset.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, procedures and processes governing the receipt and expenditure of municipal funds.
- Ability to recognize process, budget or accounting problems and the initiative to seek suitable modifications.
- Ability to work very independently with little or no supervision and to make accurate, informed decisions regarding financial matters.
- Must possess above average communication skills, both oral and written when dealing with upper management, professional agencies and the public.
- Ability to enter data into a PC computer efficiently and accurately. Must have basic knowledge of office procedures, including experience with word processing and spreadsheet packages, such as Microsoft WORD and EXCEL, is required.

- Ability to pass stringent RCMP security clearance prior to receiving an offer of employment
- Must maintain RCMP security clearance throughout employment
- Ability to type 45 wpm accurately
- Successful completion of required courses and the ability to satisfactorily pass all training DM
- Maintain a valid Alberta Operators motor vehicle license

Remuneration:
$36.23 to $38.14 per hour. (2025 Rates)
Hours of Work:
75 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
