Full job description

We are seeking a Maritime Data Risk Lead to drive the design and delivery of advanced data, analytics, and digital risk intelligence across a next generation maritime digital platform.

This is a senior, hands on leadership role responsible for transforming maritime operational, compliance, ESG, and risk data into actionable intelligence for shipowners, operators, insurers, and ecosystem partners.

You will sit at the intersection of maritime domain expertise, data analytics, and digital platforms, shaping how data driven risk insights are embedded into commercial and operational decision making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and governance of maritime data and digital risk intelligence frameworks, supporting compliance, operational risk, ESG, and performance analytics.
  • Design and oversee data models, analytics pipelines, and dashboards using vessel, voyage, emissions, compliance, and third party maritime datasets.
  • Translate complex maritime risk data into clear, decision ready insights for senior stakeholders, clients, and platform users.
  • Own the integration of external data sources (AIS, weather, emissions, compliance, vendor APIs) into a unified digital architecture.
  • Define and implement data quality, governance, and risk controls in line with GDPR, IMO data standards, and industry best practice.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and commercial teams to embed analytics and risk intelligence into SaaS and marketplace offerings.
  • Support the development of predictive analytics and AI driven risk indicators (e.g. operational risk, compliance exposure, ESG performance and use of AI tools).
  • Act as a subject matter lead on maritime data risk, advising on platform strategy, partner integrations, and future analytics capabilities.
  • Mentor and guide analysts or technical contributors as the platform scales.

Required Experience & Skills

Essential

  • Proven experience in a senior data, analytics, digital risk, or data intelligence role in Maritime.
  • Strong understanding of data platforms, analytics, and digital systems (cloud based environments, dashboards, APIs).
  • Experience working with complex, multi source datasets in regulated or risk driven industries (maritime, insurance, logistics, energy, fintech, etc.).
  • Ability to translate technical and analytical outputs into business and risk insights.
  • Experience leading or owning data governance, data quality, or risk intelligence frameworks.
  • Strong stakeholder communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Shipping industry background & sailing exprience rerquired
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics, or similar
  • Master’s or higher (especially for analytics lead roles) is strongly preferred

Desirable (but not mandatory)

  • Senior Maritime domain exposure (shipping, ports, compliance, ESG, insurance, fleet operations).
  • Experience with AI / predictive analytics / risk modelling.
  • Familiarity with ESG, emissions reporting, or regulatory data environments.
  • Experience in SaaS, digital platforms, or marketplace based businesses.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £58,000.00-£65,000.00 per year
