Job Description

This is a remote position.

Overall vision for the role

We are looking for a self-motivated communications professional to join the MenEngage Alliance team. You will work closely with the Communications Manager to deliver on day-to-day communications and support the implementation of our communications and knowledge management strategy, from the promotion of events, to coordinating the Communications Working Group, to elevating our advocacy, activism, and knowledge-building online.

As Communications Officer, you will tap into the collective wisdom of the world’s largest civil-society community for working with men and boys for gender equality in order to craft compelling communications content to push forward the work of gender, climate, and social justice for all.

If you have a passion for applying intersectional feminist thinking to the subject of men and boys, and the skill to translate that insight into high-impact, relatable communications that shape the public conversation, this role may be for you. 

Key Competencies

  • At least 5 years of experience working in non-profit organization communications; 
  • Commitment to women’s rights and gender justice for all and the MenEngage Alliance Accountability Framework, as part of the broader agenda for human rights, climate- and social justice; Demonstrable experience with developing and implementing feminist-informed, decolonial organizational models and cultures that center care, mutuality, collaboration, and power share;
  • Highly organized, independent, and proactive; Demonstrated ability to work together to achieve an impact towards our mission and vision in a dynamic remote team environment; 
  • Experience with working in multi-sectoral and multi-cultural working environments; Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with a wide variety of people across various contexts using remote collaboration tools.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills: A track record and portfolio of high-quality written English-language content, and a demonstrated passion and excellence in writing, including about gender justice issues from an intersectional feminist lens, and in accessible language, digesting complex topics into clear, relatable, and compelling content for diverse audiences and channels. Similar level of competence in Spanish and/or French would be desirable; 
  • Sharp and creative eye for graphic design and visual content: A demonstrated ability to develop visual materials for digital and print mediums is strongly preferred, along with a demonstrable understanding of key graphic design methods and concepts;
  • Strong grasp of intersectional feminism and the ‘men and masculinities’ field: Whether through lived experience, academic study, or other means, a strong understanding of key concepts of intersectional feminism – and how they can be applied to ‘men and masculinities’ – is crucial;
  • Digital storytelling, leveraging our extensive archive of knowledge as well as amplifying the innovative and powerful stories and expertise from across and beyond our network;
  • Passion for social media impact in the ‘men and masculinities’ space: The ideal candidate will be someone with a drive for being on top of the latest social media trends relating to men and masculinities and leveraging opportunities to enter and shift public discourse;
  • Adept with marketing tools such as e-marketing, CMS and CRM systems, project management tools, social media planning and insight tools etc;
  • Video storytelling and editing: A portfolio of videos produced, filmed, or edited is desirable;
  • Experience working with external creative professionals and coordinating the production of digital, audiovisual, and graphic designed materials, ensuring careful adherence to our brand guidelines

Requirements

Working with the Communications Manager to coordinate and implement:

  • Communications plans for the dissemination of reports, announcements, events, and other relevant activities – from planning through to follow-up communications and knowledge management. 
  • Development and posting of social media posts across channels, ensuring timely, relevant, and impactful content, responding to comments/engagement, as well as learning from social media insights.
  • Our Global Communications Working Group, including scheduling of meetings, sending reminders, and preparing minutes
  • The mobilisation of members and partners for joint campaigns and activities. Working together with the Global Secretariat – and in particular the Communications Manager, the Communications Officer will be a key member of the team in the campaign cycle of planning, implementation, evaluation, and learning. 
  • The coordination of content at menengage.org, ensuring the timely upload of new material. This includes pages for: networks, approaches, work areas, events, member profiles and others.
  • The global newsletter, with the support of the communications intern, every 2 weeks to our global mailing list of researchers, academics, policy makers, donors, governments, and practitioners.
