The post holder is responsible for ensuring the effective running of the ward, providing clinical leadership and managerial support in the absence of the Senior Sister, working as a highly skilled member of the multidisciplinary team, practicing a high standard of clinical care and being key to improving the patient’s experience. The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care during their span of duty and support and encourage the concept of teamwork, team development and collaboration between team members. As the Junior Sister you will be responsible for the care of patients with tracheostomy / laryngectomy and patients with complex wounds. The Junior sister will also be involved in the training and support of junior staff in the care of these patients.
Main duties of the job
Communication and Relationship skills
Actively supports patients and their families, communicating difficult and complex information using a variety of methods, to ensure effective understanding.
Liaise with Senior Sister to troubleshoot concerns and seeks early resolution to address these.
Knowledge, Training and Experience
Utilises professional knowledge to assess, plan, evaluate and implement care interventions for patients, providing advice to junior members of staff on clinical issues
Follows evidenced based treatment plans, working to agreed policies
Physical skills
Delivers clinical skills which include a range of duties to ensure the patient’s comfort at all times.
Responsible for identifying and acting upon areas where standards of care, patient safety and/or quality can be improved
Responsibilities for Human Resources
Manages the department giving support to junior members of staff
Responsible for the mentorship/preceptorship of students and junior staff, including the facilitation of clinical supervision
